Open Studio House of Strength

Roshanak Morrowatian

On Wednesday 19 April at 15.00, choreographer Roshanak Morrowatian will show work-in-progress of her latest performance House of Strength at Theater De Vlugt in Amsterdam. Inspired by an ancient Persian tradition, this spiritual, physical and musical performance celebrates human's versatility and the power of connection. It will premiere on 28 and 29 May 2023 at festival CaDance in The Hague.

During the open studio on 19 April, everyone is welcome to take a look behind the scenes. Together with performers Sjaan Flikweert, Djahan Manuela Mazhari Perez, Reza Mirabi, Deion Simon and Vainergill Thurnim, Roshanak Morrowatian will take you through the creation and rehearsal process. She will also discuss the sources of inspiration she used for House of Strength.

About Roshanak Morrowatian
Roshanak Morrowatian (Iran, 1989) is a choreographer, dancer and actress. After obtaining her BA in dance and an MA in dance composition from Folkwang University of the Arts (D), she has appeared in the work of Marina Abramović, Pina Bausch, Isabelle Beernaert, Alexis Blake and Joost Vrouenraets, among others.

The desire for a more harmonious society runs like a thread through the performances of Morrowatian and her dance company Rover. Unnoticed details, invisible people and forgotten stories take centre stage in her choreographies. For the performance Polished, she received the BNG Bank Dansprijs together with Mami Izumi, and in 2020 she received the Prijs van de Nederlandse Dansdagen.

From 2023, Morrowatian is artist in residence at ICK Dans Amsterdam/Artist Space and Parkstad Limburg Theatres and is part of the Fonds Podiumkunsten's 'Nieuwe Makers Regeling'. In this two-year trajectory, she is supported by ICK, Korzo, VIA ZUID, PLT and DOX.
