Double Points: Outis

Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten

OYTIΣ or OUTIS (« nobody » in English) was the name Odysseus called himself when he pierced the eye of the cyclops. Based on the story of Odysseus and Penelope, Double Points OUTIS is a new collaboration between choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten and the Suiss composer Hanspeter Kyburz. Sensors attached to Emio Greco’s body produce impulses as he moves, and the impulses are then transformed into a soundscape by way of electronic sampling.

Double Points: OUTIS explores the interaction between music and dance and is the result of a long collaboration between the choreographers and the composer. What began as an experiment, under the name Double Points +, has meanwhile developed into a small dance opera. An interdisciplinary piece incorporating kinetic film images, live electronics, a music ensemble, a dancer, a singer and a libretto.
