ICK DANS AMSTERDAM SHIFTS FOCUS

News Item | November 4 - 2024, Amsterdam (NL)

As of 2025, ICK Dans Amsterdam will conclude its production house function. This decision follows the advice from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK), which opted not to allocate funding for this function.

In addition to its own productions, ICK will focus in the coming years on research, particularly on the intersection between the body and artificial intelligence, interdisciplinary collaborations, international residencies, and community projects centered in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. We will also continue fostering talent development for dancers and performers through our junior company, ICK-Next. Although the production house function will end, ICK will still support emerging talents from our dance center, Space for Dance Art, and the Artist Studio by providing space and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

With great dedication, the entire ICK team has supported new creators since 2009, with the production house function officially joining our mission in 2021. We are proud of what ICK has achieved in recent years, particularly seeing artists like Christian Guerematchi, Charles Pas, Ainhoa Hernández Escudero, Courtney May Robertson (winner of the 2024 Mime Award), and the collective Trevoga (Top 5, NRC) develop their own artistic signatures and achieve notable results and international success with us. We are grateful for the inspiring exchanges we’ve shared with new creators over the past four years. Our thanks go to Suzy Blok, who led the production house function, and Suzan Tunca, who heads our Academy, for their pivotal roles in this work. The collaborations have enriched us as an organization and have offered artists space to grow. We cherish the contributions these creators have made to the field of dance.

Given the limited budget of the AFK, ICK is very grateful to the City of Amsterdam and Alderman Touria Meliani for the recently pledged additional financial support, allowing ICK and Space for Dance Art to confidently continue over the next four years without the production house function. Thanks to the full support of the Performing Arts Fund (FPK) and our partners, ICK can continue contributing to the future of dance art in Amsterdam and beyond.
