BREATH IN A PHYSICAL RESOLUTION

2024

Emio Greco | Pieter C Scholten & Nxt Museum

Can technologies like AI be an extension of how our body constantly moves and evolves? After four successful performances in June, ICK Dans Amsterdam breaths life once again into their collaboration with Nxt Museum with a performance night of ‘Breath in a Physical Resolution” on August 28th.

The live performance Breath in a Physical Resolution – a choreography by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten – explores the complex relationship between the human body and emerging technologies within the context of digital art, dance, and performance.

ICK sees the continuous development of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, as an opportunity to redefine the significance of the body. This project aims to explore and challenge the boundaries between the intuitive human body and the impersonal digital world. Drawing inspiration from past installations such as <Life In Our Minds: Motherflock / III and Fifteen Points>, a dialogue is created that centers not on harmony, but on the contrast between human and machine, intuition and algorithm.

Breath is used as a metaphor for life itself, navigating through the mists of uncertainty and sudden illumination by technological breakthroughs. Highlighting the necessity of presenting a live dance performance in Nxt Museum, a bastion of digital art and technology, this dialogue becomes tangible, and possibly even personal.

About the collaboration
Nxt and ICK embarked on their collaboration in June 2024 during Amsterdam Artweek, with a focus on exploring the profound connection between technology and the human body. Their inaugural project, "Breath in a Physical Resolution," was featured as part of the <Life in a Different Resolution> exhibition from Random International. The collaboration between Nxt and ICK, about the connection between technology and body, will be playfully further explored in the coming years.
