WE DANCE TOGETHER #5 / supported artist

Andreas Hannes (Greece, 1987) is trained as a percussionist and choreographer and has a passion for film. After completing his studies in classical percussion at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, he moved to the Netherlands. As an independent filmmaker and artist, he co-founded Small House Productions, a platform for international and interdisciplinary projects (2011-2015). He was also active as a social worker. In 2018 Hannes graduated from the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) with the performance The City and won the Moving Forward trajectory 2018. This was followed by the performance Tremble (2019) as artist in residence at Dansmakers Amsterdam. He is a programmer and producer at Cinedans Festival in Amsterdam. In 2021, Andreas has created a choreography with and for the dancers of the ICK Company for the program Known & To Know, Reverberated Emissions, which has premiered during ICK Fest.

He summarises his artistic work under the notion of distance as relational, physical and metaphysical. He is fascinated by what is considered similar or different between bodies, traditions and disciplines, and works with the field of tension between them. In 2019 he received the Young Art Support Award Amsterdam. He also won the BNG Bank Dance Award 2020. In 2022, Andreas his work Warping Soul, with dancers from Conny Janssen Danst company, was chosen as one of the Aerowaves Top Twenty22.

WE DANCE TOGETHER #5

We Dance Together is a community-focused project of Space for Dance Art / ICK Dans Amsterdam. One evening a week, you get to work with a choreographer/theatremaker.

Space for Dance Art opens its doors to the community and both avid movers and enthusiasts get the opportunity to work with dance and movement under the guidance of a known choreographer/theatre-maker connected to ICK Dans Amsterdam.

From February 26, a new edition of We Dance Together will start under the guidance of Andreas Hannes. The serie of eight workshops will take place from February 26 to April 15, every Monday evening between 7:30pm and 9pm at Space for Dance Art in Amsterdam.

During this edition of We Dance Together #5, you will be introduced to Andreas' practices and methods. The workshop series will conclude with a small presentation or open workshop for friends, family, and others who are interested. Andreas will share his 'skipping practice' with the group of participants.

SWAY - 2023

Sway revolves around the common movement of swaying – the carefree energy and motion of tipping in and out of balance. In this rhythmical and adventurous solo, Andreas Hannes aims to sway between landscapes, mythical stories, musical timelines and invented histories. We witness the protagonist transiting through environments by a constant and sensual re-configuration of his body and the space. Scenes include a dance for re-invented heritage, an ode to staying with your pain, and the creation and dissolution of rhythmical creatures that carry energies of power, fragility, inevitability and absurdity.

Known & to Know - Reverberated Emissions - 2021

In the series Known & to Know, new work by a young choreographer is presented with the ICK ensemble in combination with a performance from the repertoire of Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten. This first edition is a Double Bill with Reverberated Emissions by Andreas Hannes and Nero, a remake of Conjunto di Nero (Montpellier, France - 2001).

The Greek choreographer Andreas Hannes (1987) rethinks the human relationship with gravity. He searches for a body that is fluid and dangerously sensual. The dancers hop, collide and bend on stage. In Hannes' work, dancers navigate through a space that binds them together as if they were one body. He creates a seductive, exciting environment for an unearthly dance.

Nero also plays with the perception of gravity and space. In this work by choreographer Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten, visual boundaries are blurred by darkness and mist. Bodies disappear and appear in another dimension. Especially for the ICK-Fest, this performance will be danced by Emio Greco himself, together with former ICK-dancers Dereck Cayla and Barbara Meneses and current ensemble dancer Denis Bruno. Four generations of dancers breathe new life into this performance from 2001.

Known & to Know is a journey back to the future where the boundaries of time, space and bodies fade. An interplay of powerful, vulnerable and sensual dance.

Aerowaves 2022

Andreas Hannes is part of the #Twenty22 selection of the European platform Aerowaves. His selected work is produced by Rotterdam-based dance production house Dansateliers Crew: ‘Warping Soul’; the work he created as part of DANSLOKAAL 8, the yearly collaboration Dansateliers has with Conny Janssen Danst.

The 2022 line-up includes works from 12 countries and proves yet again how rich Europe’s emerging dance scene is in its diversity of themes and aesthetics.

You will be able to meet the Twenty22 artists at the Spring Forward Festival from 28 April – 1 May 2022 hosted by the European Capital of Culture in Elefsina and DAN.C.CE UNITIVA.
