Ainhoa Hernández Escudero

New Adventures 2023 #1 / Supported Artist

Ainhoa Hernández Escudero (Spain, 1989, she/her) is a choreographer based in Amsterdam, born and raised in Madrid. She graduated from the DAS Theatre Master's program in 2022. Her work traverses counter-hegemonic practices into the intersection of pop, post-internet aesthetics, technology, and mainstream culture. She approaches the weird, interested in what is outside the limits of what we can name. She is currently working on the project Blooming–The Saga, a three-part choreographic work focusing on science fiction, dreams, magic, and queerness and their potential to produce and manifest alternative realities. Ainhoa received the AFK 3 Package Deal Talent Grant 2022/2023 in the dance category. She has shared her works in contexts such as Frascati, Come Together Amsterdam, Bâtard Festival, Gessnerallee Zürich, Center for the Performance Research NY, Arqueologías del Futuro, Museo del Chopo, Antic Teatre, La Caldera, La Casa Encendida, CA2M, or MNCARS, among others.

In 2023, Ainhoa Hernández Escudero is one of the New Adventures makers, presenting her work (don't) look me in the eyes on 2 and 3 June in Theater De Vlugt.

(don't) look me in the eyes is inspired by the story of the Greek myth of Medusa and the Gorgon sisters—a dance performance in homage and reworking of this mythological tale. In this performance, Ainhoa Hernández Escudero aims to exorcise and reflect on their story through dance, pop culture, goddesses, technology, and music, leaving the audience to reflect on the representations of women and queer characters in the foundational narratives of Western culture.
