INSTALLATION DOUBLE SKIN/DOUBE MIND

How to read a virtual dance notation? With your body.

The interactive installation Double Skin/Double Mind is the virtual version of the workshop Double Skin/Double Mind. Participants participate in real time, and receive verbal, physical and environmental feedback.

The installation by Chris Ziegler (ZKM Karlsruhe) is an aluminum construction with a projection screen, four sound boxes and a camera tracking system. The participants stand in the middle of the construction. The Gesture Follower, developed by Frédéric Bevilacqua (IRCAM) follows the movements and compares the data of the filmed workshop with the real-time movement data of the participants. Sound, images and music accompany the participants as they travel mentally and physically through the Double Skin/Double Mind method and receive feedback.

Double Skin/Double Mind Installation 2.0

In March 2018, we initiated a research week around the DS/DM installation with the ID-Lab of the Amsterdam School of the Arts. There were contributions from Utrecht University, Motionbank and IRCAM. We mapped the state of the art and considered technological updates, and new goals and values for the installation. The installation was open to students and colleagues and there was a transdisciplinary discourse on material thinking with the installation as a case study.

The DS/DM installation is also listed in the body and code section of the exhibition Coding the World at Centre Pompidou from 15 June to 27 August 2018.
