Inside Movement Knowledge is a two-year collaborative, interdisciplinary research project into new methods for the documentation, transmission and preservation of contemporary choreographic and dance knowledge. The project is a continuation of the Notation Research Project, Emio Greco | PC’s investigation into systems for recording and transmitting the essential elements of their creative work. The outcomes of this research were presented (October 2007) in the form of an interactive installation and publication of a book, film documentary and interactive DVD with the title Capturing Intention.
The Notation Research Project was the result of an artistic need to deepen understanding of transmission. This line of artistic research from within the company will be continued; but it will be broadened to involve a more rigorous interdisciplinary investigation. This next phase, again in close collaboration with partner Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK) (specifically the Research Group: Art Practice and Development) and called Inside Movement Knowledge, was developed for a new consortium including the company Emio Greco | PC; the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMK); the Department of Media and Culture Studies, University of Utrecht (within the frame of the new Theatre Studies program); the Dance Departments of the Amsterdam School of the Arts; and an International Associates Network.
